Bakewell is the Capital of the Peak, and home to the Peak District National Park Authority. There is still a Queens Arms but the Kings Arms and Royal Oak disappeared in the last century, as did a couple of other hotels in Bakewell.

The White Horse Inn was a tavern and posting house in the 18th century before being almost entirely demolished in 1804 and replaced by The Rutland Arms .
