Barn Farm With Buildings dating back to the 1500's, Barn Farm is a traditional Derbyshire gritstone stock farm, in one of the prettiest villages in the Peak District. Overlooking the beautiful Derwent Valley, the farm is a haven for wildlife including badgers and rare Black Fallow deer. It boasts over 60 species of birds such as Nuthatch, Dippers and Peregrine Falcons.
Located 7 miles south of the historic market town of Bakewell and three miles west of Matlock, Barn Farm is ideally situated to access the diverse array of local attractions.
The Limestone Way passes close by the farm, which is situated on the junction of no less than four major footpaths. There are well-maintained footpaths throughout the area. Bordering the farm is the mystical Stanton Moor with its ancient 'Nine Ladies' stone circle. A little farther the River Lathkill provides the focus of a pleasant walk through the beautiful Lathkill Dale. Robin Hood's Stride and Catcliffe Rocks are just two of the local climbing areas. There are many excellent sports facilities within the region such as fishing, riding and watersports.
Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are close by. Matlock Bath boasts the children's attraction 'Gullivers Kingdom' and a cable car to the Heights of Abraham. There is also the Derbyshire Wildlife's Whistlestop Centre and Mining Museum.
Facilities The main shower block is heated and it is open 24 hours a day. In addition, there are laundry and drying facilities. There is a drinking water from all taps and there is a facility for pot washing. Waste bins are provided and are emptied daily. Separate sauna available for booking. Games room and electric sockets available for camping and caravans.
Accommodation In addition to the sheltered camping paddocks there are two beautifully appointed camping barns each providing accommodation for 15 people. As recommended by Peak District Online who have been for their second visit here Sabine Hay Barn has bunk beds, Hill Carr Barn has singles. Each barn is heated, with table and chairs, fitted kitchens and cooking facilities. Each has a private bathroom and shower facilities in adjacent barns.
The Stables Barn - Newly converted to a high standard the Stable Barn sleeps 6 in 3 sets of bunkbeds. This barn has excellent views and modern decor including a well fitted kitchen, TV unit with freeview and heating. Perfect for a short stay or a longer visit on this idylic farm.
Warren Carr Barn - This newly converted cattle shed sleeps 12 and has been sympathetically restored and now offers luxury barn accommodation including 12 single beds, fully fitted kitchen, carpeted throughout, spacious living area with dining table, heating. This barn has its own ensuite shower room.
There is a grocery/Off-Licence in the village open from 7am until 7pm, which sells papers, bread and milk. There are two local inns: The Druid's Inn and The Red Lion, both of which serve food. In the neighbouring village of Winster there are the Miners Standard and The Bowling Green.
A little further a field are the Three Stags Heads and Square and Compass at Darley Bridge and The Grouse and Claret at Rowsley.
