Holiday Cottages In Brassington

Brassington is a quiet and picturesque village, packed with quaint little cottages and lovely houses. It is off the beaten track and away from busy main roads, but this was not always the case – back in 1663 Brassington had a Kings Highway passing through it, and the inhabitants of the village were under strict instructions to maintain and upkeep this important road. By the mid 1800’s, the hills around Brassington were being exploited for their valuable lead ore, with cottages being built to house the miners and no less than 14 ale houses to quench their thirst! By the early 20th century however the lead mining boom was over and the pubs began to close so that now there is only the Miners Arms and The Gate Inn still pulling pints. Some of the holiday cottages in Brassington are old miners’ cottages, but there may even be the odd one with a cellar where home ale was once brewed. Other holiday cottages in Brassington can be found on the outskirts of the village. A week in a holiday cottage in Brassington would barely give you enough time to explore the locality as there is so much to see and so much to do! Carsington Water is but a five minute drive and offers water sports, walks , cycle trails, fishing and bird watching – that could easily occupy a family for a week! Whilst just a short cycle ride from your holiday cottage in Brassington would take you onto the High Peak Trail, a stunning track which runs across the tops of the White Peak and is known for its steep inclines. Brassington is steeped in history with the caves at Harborough Rocks having been occupied by Stone Age man. It is also recorded that when Daniel Defoe visited Derbyshire on his travels, the cave was the home of a couple and their five children – a very early holiday cottage in Brassington maybe? Only a short distance from the village are some properties which are a bit special – Knockerdown Farm Holiday Cottages offer superb facilities including an indoor pool and sauna, whilst at the impressive Hopton Hall, you could stay in luxury and style in one of the listed buildings converted from the stables and gardeners cottages – a difficult choice! With so much on offer, why not browse through the listing below to find your choice of holiday cottages in Brassington so that you don’t miss out!
