Holiday Cottages In Crich

Crich is a large and sprawled our village nestling high on the Derbyshire hills, about five miles from Matlock. Positioned on a ridge top it is surrounded by ancient paths and tracks and wooded slopes leading down to the valley below.Holiday Cottages in Crich can offer hilltop hikes, riverside paths or even a peaceful walk beside the Cromford canal.
Years ago Crich was an important market town with a weekly market and cattle fairs in April and October. You may well still hear the sounds of cows mooing and sheep bleating from holiday cottages in Crich, but rest assured that they should be safely locked away in the fields and no longer wandering the streets.

From some of the Holiday Cottages in Crich it will be possible to view
Crich Stand, a magnificent landmark on the edge of Crich Cliff, whose face is striped with colourful layers of limestone which have gradually been quarried away over the centuries. Crich Stand is a memorial to the 11,409 men of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment who fell in the Great War. It is said to be the third tower to have stood on this hill, the first being struck by lightning and later demolished whilst the next one collapsed due to subsidence.
The village of Crich was used as a location in the filming of Peak Practice, and it could well be that holiday cottages in Crich have a claim to fame and have appeared on TV screens around the country.

Lead mining played an important part in the economic growth of Crich, with the possibility that holiday cottages in Crich were originally miner’s cottages or were occupied by quarrymen or lime burners.
Whilst staying at one of the holiday cottages in Crich it is essential that you visit Crich Tramway Village which has been home for almost half a century to the National Tramway Museum. Here you will find a reconstructed Edwardian street complete with decorative pub, sweet shops and lots of memorabilia. With tram rides along the hillside, it offers a fun packed day out for the whole family.

In fact holiday Cottages in Crich are perfect for family entertainment as
Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath is just a few minutes drive away, the National Stone Centre is across the valley and offers children the chance to have a go at gem panning, and Alton Towers is under an hour away! For those more adventurous and wanting to take advantage of the Great Outdoors, holiday cottages in Crich are not far from Carsington Water offering a variety of water sports and leisure facilities, and just a few minutes drive will take you to Middleton Top where you can hire bikes and tackle the High Peak Trail.
