Holiday Cottages In Eyam
Eyam, which also goes by the infamous title of The Plague Village, is credited with being the most visited village in the Peak District. Back in 1665 when bubonic plague wreaked havoc here, the brave and selfless villagers went into voluntary isolation to try and stop the terrible disease spreading. Their valiant story has not been forgotten and is evident throughout the village by plaques, place names and a visit to the Eyam Museum.
Dotted around the village are several 17th century cottages which have survived since the time of the plague, and have little notices outside detailing who lived there at the time. Beck Cottage which is one of the holiday cottages in Eyam was a plague cottage and home to the village baker.
Should your stay at a holiday cottage in Eyam coincide with Carnival Week in late August, you will be in for a treat, as the whole village comes alive with fun, merriment, entertainment and a sheep roast!

A short walk up the hill from your holiday cottage in Eyam will take you to the moors which are carpeted in purple when the heather is in flower. From there, a wander down into Bretton Clough or across to Abney can be a wonderful walk on a sunny day.
