Holiday Cottages In Hayfield

Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Dark PeakHayfield is known as the Gateway to Kinder - a high moorland plateau of peat bog and heather that attracts hill walkers and hikers from around the globe. Hayfield was recorded in the Domesday Book as Hedfeld which meant ‘natural clearing in a vast forest’. It is hard to imagine that these exposed moorland hills were once covered with trees!
To stay at one of the Holiday Cottages in Hayfield puts you at base camp should you wish to undertake an ascent on Kinder and perhaps walk to the Downfall where a waterfall cascades over the high cliff edge – the Derbyshire attempt to replicate Angel Falls!

Be sure to pack your walking boots when staying at Holiday Cottages in Hayfield, as this was the setting for the Kinder Mass Trespass 70 years ago when on April 24th 1932, 400 people ventured up onto the then private land and claimed their right to roam.
Hayfield was the birthplace of Arthur Lowe, famed for his Captain Manwaring character in Dads Army, and whilst staying at one of the Holiday Cottages in Hayfield you may well come across several references to this popular actor.
Should your stay at Holiday cottages in Hayfield coincide with the local fell races, you may wish to take part in the Kinder Trog, the Lambs Longer Leg or the Lantern Pike – strange names indeed for the various routes which will take you over the moors.

Hayfield
sits on an old turnpike road of 1792 which runs from Old Glossop to Buxton, prior to that, travellers would have journeyed on old tracks over the moors. Many of these ancient routes still exist and provide excellent paths forwalkers who often take advantage of the self-catering facilities of Holiday Cottages in Hayfield.
Whilst staying at one of the Holiday Cottages in Hayfield you might feel like a night at the local, and with The Kinder Lodge, The Sportsman or The Lantern to choose from, it could be a case of staggering back in the dark and trying to find which one of the Holiday Cottages in Hayfield you had booked.
Hayfield is a traditional Derbyshire village which is proud of its customs and traditions. Whilst staying at Holiday Cottages in Hayfield you may find the village streets thronged with people enjoying a performance of the local Morris Dancers, whilst in mid July be sure to look out for the ornately decorated Well Dressings.
