Holiday Cottages In Millers Dale

In The 21st century Millers Dale is a place of beauty with numerous nature reserves, an abundance of wild flowers, fabulous paths and tracks to walk through picturesque scenery, and a tranquil river which tumbles and trips over rocks and weirs on its way to unite with the Derwent.
But this was not always the case. In the 19th and 20th centuries Millers Dale had a thriving industrial role to play with large quarries eating away at the hillsides, a busy railway line carved through its heart, and a river harnessed and drained of its strength to power the water wheels of up to 20 mills on the short stretch of the Wye between Buxton and Bakewell, producing anything from cotton, corn, timber, silk or even distilled peppermint!
When you stay at a holiday cottage in Millers Dale, you can experience at first hand how Mother Nature has a way of reclaiming her land and making it beautiful again, for here is a little paradise in the heart of the Peak District.
Millers Dale is an ideal base for walkers and cyclists with the Monsal Trail on the doorstep of your holiday cottage in Millers Dale, and a network of fabulous footpaths heading off in all directions. The wonderful Limestone Way walk passes straight through the middle of Millers Dale and is a definite must to consider as part of your week in one of the holiday cottages in Millers Dale.
If you enjoy history, then to stay in a holiday cottage in Millers Dale will provide you with countless stories of bygone times, both happy and sad. Nearby Litton Mill has infamous fame for its workforce of pauper children who were brutally abused by the mill manager Ellis Needham around C1800.
Monks Dale is a deep sylvan chasm which drops down to meet the Wye at Millers Dale. Here you will find the holiday cottages in Millers Dale known as Monks Retreat. Each of the cottages have appropriate names such as Monks Memories, Friars Folly and Abbots Abode.
Should you book your holiday cottage in Millers Dale for spring, be sure to bring a book to identify wild flowers, as Millers Dale is a wild flower wonderland where orchids abound as well as many other rare plants.
A week in a holiday cottage in Millers Dale is sure to be a week of happy memories!
