Holiday Cottages In Wormhill

Wormhill is a peaceful village, off the beaten track yet within close range of some of the Peak District’s most stunning dales. With Millers Dale, Chee Dale, Peter Dale, Monks Dale and Hay Dale within walking distance, be sure to pack your boots when staying at a holiday cottage in Wormhill. There is only one road through the village which has a traditional ancient church, majestic hall and a village green with a set of old stocks. There is also an impressive memorial to James Brindley who was born at the nearby hamlet of Tunstead and from a very modest upbringing, became one of the countries best civil engineers, being responsible for the construction of three hundred miles of canals. If you go for a walk from your holiday cottage at Wormhill over the fields to Tunstead, passing the side of the 16th century Old Hall Farm, you can visit the site of Brindley’s birthplace now demolished but marked with a plaque. The name Wormhill implies that this little settlement is but a blip on the landscape. Do not be fooled however as its original name was Wolfhill after the numerous wolves that roamed hereabouts. The wolves have long since disappeared so if you hear howling in the night when staying at your holiday cottage in Wormhill, fear not as it is probably the local farm dog! St Margaret’s Church which is set in trees a short distance from the main village street is worthy of a visit. Only the base of the tower remains from the original medieval house of worship, but with tufa cornerstones its construction is quite unique. There is a traditional holiday cottage in Wormhill, The Cow Shed is actually very well laid out and tastefully furnished outbuilding conversions. However, if you prefer a holiday cottage in Wormhill which can cater for not just the whole family, but probably your neighbours as well, then Hargate Hall has apartments and holiday cottages in Wormhill to accommodate 75 people! Surrounded by wonderful White Peak Countryside, a maze of paths and quiet country lanes, a holiday cottage in Wormhill is the ideal spot for a country retreat and the chance to unwind, and with Tideswell, Buxton and Bakewell just a short drive away, you will have easy access to shops , restaurants, tea rooms, museums and or even a night out at the Opera House!
