Take an exclusive look behind closed doors at National Trust’s Calke Abbey on Tuesday 6th November.
Get a private behind the scenes tour and join our house team as they put the house to bed in preparation for the winter deep clean. See some of the specialist techniques used to conserve our vast collection.
House and Collections Manager, John Parkinson, says: “This is a wonderful opportunity to really get behind closed doors and experience what happens as we shut the house for the winter period. We’re excited to share our skills and show people what hard work really goes on to keep the house going”.
The House closes on Sunday 4th November until Saturday 23rd February 2013 so that it can take a well deserved rest! Calke Abbey wasn’t designed as a public building so after welcoming thousands of visitors in 2012 we need time to carry out conservation work so future generations can enjoy the house and its contents.
As part of your tour enjoy a delicious 2 course lunch, prepared by our Calke chefs using fresh and locally produced ingredients.
Book your tour for 10am – 1.30pm or 12.30pm – 4pm, Lunch and refreshments included.
