Lark Rise to Tideswell

On Thursday 17th March New Perspectives Theatre Company visit Tideswell with their latest production, a new adaptation of the classic story Lark Rise to Candleford, performed in the magnificent St John the Baptist Church - the Cathedral of the Peak. With a cast of three, the play goes back to the original book by Flora Thompson. It will be familiar to those that have enjoyed the TV series, but you'll also love it if you did not watch the small screen version.  When young Laura Timmins sets out from the tiny village of Lark Rise to start a new life in the nearby market town of Candleford she finds herself torn between her love of the countryside and the lure of the town, the traditions of the past and the promise of the future.

Critically-acclaimed New Perspectives Theatre Company presents a captivating new adaptation of Flora Thompson's classic portrait of growing up in rural Oxfordshire in the twilight years of the nineteenth century. Featuring drama, storytelling and live folk music, this unsentimental yet deeply affectionate picture of life in a forgotten England is faithfully recreated by a cast of unforgettable and much-loved characters.

New Perspectives have visited Tideswell many times. You may have seen them before or heard good things from someone who has. They are consistently getting top reviews in the national and regional press and were an Edinburgh Festival sell-out last year with Farm Boy. This play promises to be another hit. Over the years they've brought Those Magnificent Men, The Hired Man, On Saturday This Bed is Poland, The Farm, The Allotment to the village - to name but a few. Come and see their latest production in Tideswell's parish church.

Brought to Tideswell through Live and Local the Arts Council and local authority supported schemeto bring great entertainment to villages.
