Description:

Fern CottageEXCEPTIONAL SELF CATERING PEAK DISTRICT HOLIDAY COTTAGES WITHIN THE SCENIC CONSERVATION VILLAGE OF FOOLOW. ONE BEDROOMED COTTAGES IN OUTSTANDING VILLAGE LOCATIONS IN THE CENTRE OF THE PEAK PARK.

'Blessed with all these picturesque ingredients, Foolow could easily serve as one of those idyllic villages featured in Midsomer Murders - without the murders of course' - Derbyshire Life, December 2007.

The village of Foolow is described in the Peak Park Tourist Guide as being one of the prettiest villages in the Peak. The "locals" insist it is the prettiest!  A small conservation village with pond, ducks, Manor House, village green, 14th century cross, bull baiting ring, one pub with good food offerings, a small chapel and a tiny church.

The location is ideal for exploring the many attractions of the area too numerous to mention here but including the historical plague village of Eyam (a couple of miles away), the Chatsworth Estate, Haddon Hall, Ladybower (of Dam Busters fame), Bakewell, Castleton, Buxton (the highest town in the country), the lovely dales of Lathkill, Cressbrook, Monsal (and Foolow's own Silly Dale!) and the numerous edges and crags.  Other areas of beauty such as Dovedale are slightly further afield but are easily accessible.

The Bulls Head by the village green offers both edible and liquid refreshment as does the famed "Barrel" which occupies a commanding position on Bretton ridge high above Foolow  affording views over five counties. The nearest shops are approx. two miles away in Eyam.  Bakewell is the nearest market town whilst Sheffield and Chesterfield are each only half an hour’s drive away.

Foolow acts as a crossroads as far as a variety of walks are concerned and is extremely popular with walkers, artists and lovers of country life.

The cottages are furnished in traditional style and are of great charm, comfort and character - a testimony being the number of repeat bookings received from guests year after year.

Well behaved 100% housetrained dogs are accepted by arrangement but must not be left unattended at any time. An accessibility statement for each of the cottages is available on request.

Directions
Leave M1 at junction 26 if travelling north, follow signs for and pass through Matlock taking A6, pass through Bakewell and continue on A6 towards Buxton but turn right after a mile or so and then immediately left into Ashford in the Water.  Turn right by the village shop and up the hill, continue passing Monsal Head before arriving at a T junction at the far edge of Wardlow.  Turn right onto the A623 then first left (signed Foolow) - Brosterfield is down the farm lane which is to the left after a hundred or so yards (on a secondary road junction); Fern Cottage is the last property but one on the right before arriving at the Bull's Head.
