Description:

Superbly situated very close to the beautiful valley of Dovedale in a lovely part of the Peak District National Park, the four cottages are located between the highly acclaimed village of Hartington and its smaller neighbour, Biggin-by-Hartington.

Cotterill Farm is in the heart of the white Peak area of the peak district. The NON-working farm consists of 12 acres of land, with two wild flower meadows and is surrounded by a nature reserve through which a footpath leads on its way to the River Dove.

The cottages are graded with four star and also given the fairly rare gold Award by the official grading organisation for  ‘providing exceptional quality in all areas but in particular in service’.

Standards of housekeeping are second to none and the owners constantly strive to improve facilities and services, for example cycle hire is now available for cotterill farm guests at about one half that charged by commercial operators, ready cooked meals are supplied and wifi is available. Three of the cottages have full Sky programmes (sky sports and film package)

There are three cycle trails on average 15 miles length within 3 miles, one of these within one mile and Sustrans route 54 using mainly bridleways is within 80 yards. There is excellent walking from the cottages with numerous footpaths and bridleways heading off in all directions (the owners have a walks pack in each cottage including about 16 walks nearly all direct from the cottage or involving catching the excellent bus service at the end of the drive and walking back to the Farm.

Interior of The DairyThe Dairy  -  This really spacious 2 person cottage has a good sized galleried bedroom overlooking a large living room in the centre of which is a log burner on a stone plinth (see picture on the right).  The bathroom has a five piece suite (separate shower cubicle and bidet), and a similarly well equipped kitchen.

This has often been described by our guests as being a 'second honeymoon cottage'. There is a private patio area in front of the cottage with superb views, similar in fact to that in the further picture above.

Dale View - So named because of the views of the surrounding dales. This cottage has an upstairs lounge (featuring a substantial old exposed beam seen on picture below) and kitchen area to take advantage of the views.

Interior of Dale ViewThe bedrooms and shower room are on the ground floor. Both bedrooms in this cottage are doubles, rather than twins. There are two means of entry and exit, on the ground floor or up attractive external stone steps to the living area (with of course an internal flight of stairs as well). A second TV in one of the double bedrooms supplements the flat screen tv on the first floor. The supplementary log effect heater adds to the superb atmosphere of this cottage.

Liffs Cottage - So named because of the view of Liffs Hill two miles away. This cottage, like its adjoining neighbour, Dale View, fronts on to a grassed area and beyond are fields, dales and rolling hills, (accessible via a squeeze stile near the adjacent off road-parking area).

This cottage also has a partly exposed old beam has the more conventional layout of lounge/kitchen on the ground floor and the two bedrooms and a fully equipped bathroom and shower on the first floor. Again, there is a second TV in the twin bedroom.

The Milking Parlour - This is the ground floor of a barn conversion - upstairs is another letting unit but guests should have no need to worry about noise transmission, as the owners have comfortably exceeded what are in any event the latest very strict building control noise transmission requirements with the installation of an independently hanging ceiling and a false floor.

The Milking Parlour has two bedrooms, one double and one single, and a particularly large shower room – with spacious shower cubicle – and under floor heating.
