Description: Grange Cottage is a 17th century cottage which has been considerably refurbished and extended. It has a welcoming lounge with beams, wooden floors, and a wood-burning stove set into a traditional fireplace. There is a colour TV, video and music centre.
Doors from the hall and the lounge lead through to a very spacious and fully-equipped dining kitchen with antique pine-panelled units, granite worktops and a stone floor. There is an electric oven with gas hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, and dishwasher.
From the kitchen there is a stable door, and double doors, out to the secure patio and pretty lawned garden, from which splendid views of the surrounding hills can be enjoyed. In the garden is a table with bench seating and a patio area with a barbeque. Immediately beyond the stone-walled garden is part of the original town ditch.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms. To the front there is a twin-bedded room and a single room, with views to Peveril Castle hill, and to the rear is a double room with views of Win Hill and Lose Hill. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, hand basin and toilet.
The property has its own off-road paved parking space directly opposite. Gas-fired central heating and electricity are included, and an initial supply of logs are provided. Duvets, linen and towels are supplied. There is a washer/drier, and a cot and high chair are available. The cottage has external lighting to the front and to the rear.
Well-behaved pets are welcome Strictly non-smoking
Castleton is named after its castle, built by the Normans in the 11th century, and it lies at the junction of the rugged Dark Peak, and the rolling White Peak. From the garden of Grange Cottage you look across to the Great Ridge, with the Iron Age fort of Mam Tor off to your left. To the west and south of Castleton are limestone hills which contain miles of caves, including Britains largest natural cave, Titan. There are four caves that are regularly open to the public: one in the village called Peak Cavern (aka the Devils Arse), and three within walking distance; Speedwell cavern (explored by boat), Treak Cliff cavern (wonderful stalactites and stalagmites) and the Blue John mines (veins of the semi-precious Blue John). The limestone is full of fossils, which you can see in the dry stone walls, including the garden wall of Grange Cottage.
The area is a walkers paradise. To the north is the rugged high moorland walking of the Dark Peak, with the start of the Pennine Way. To the south are the beautiful Derbyshire Dales, with rolling hill scenery, and pretty streams and rivers.
A short drive away are Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, perhaps best explored using cycles, which can be hired there; and for climbers the legendary Stannage Edge is just a few minutes away by car.
