Description:

The Bothy in the Peak

This tiny converted cow shed is small but quite delightful.  It offers self contained accommodation and has been furnished stylishly and to a high standard.  The centrally heated open plan interior provides sleeping, sitting, cooking and eating facilities.  There is an en suite bathroom.

The bathroom has a bath with an overhead, but very powerful, thermostatically controlled shower,  is partly tiled in white, has a darker warmer grey to create a cozy atmosphere (If you are square eyed you can just see the TV from the bath!).  There is plenty of shelving for cosmetics and toiletries as well as a heated towel rail.

The double bed has white cotton bedding and a choice of synthetic or feather pillows.

The kitchen area consists of two 'stand alone' units, one with stainless steel sink and drainer the other an electric oven with grill, halogen hob and fridge with a small ice box.  There is a small stripped oak dining table and two upholstered arm chairs.

The original stone mullioned cattle entrance has been fitted with leaded glass french windows which open onto a tiny south west facing terrace with seating.  From here you can see across the fields and from May until November watch the herd of Guernsey cows on their twice daily commute to pasture.  From late winter lambing starts and the fields at the front are home to new born lambs this continues on into Easter and beyond. To sit and watch the lambs either from the terrace or through the French windows from your arm chair is sheer delight.  The Guernseys use the field at the back when their young are born and this is more or less year round. Beyond the views are of Wetton Hill and Thor's cave.

The main entrance faces south east and is sheltered making it a perfect spot for breakfast.

The cottage has off road parking and overlooks the owner's delightful cottage gardens.  Its interior is traditional but with a twist for today. The well insulated floor has been re-laid using some of the original stone flooring. The traditionally lime plastered walls are painted a soft grey to reflect the hues of the stone. The kitchen furniture is painted a slightly darker grey and has white work tops.

The Bothy has been designed by owner RHS Gold Medal winning garden designer Heather Boardman, who has had her home featured in a number of glossy magazines.  Working in design for many years, both in fashion and latterly gardens,  she brings a high level of design to all her projects. This is reflected in the way The Bothy has been presented.

The Bothy is in the Peak District National Park in the conservation area of the village of Grindon, population 201!  Grindon is one of a number of surrounding villages which together offer churches pubs and village stores. The nearest towns are Ashbourne and Leek, and the nearest convenience store is at Waterhouses.

You will be spoilt for choice for walks. A 20 minute stroll could take you round our beautiful village and several 40 minute walks make a good pre- lunch amble whilst for the serious walker a good day's walk can be had in all directions taking in pub or picnic lunches.

Grindon is about half an hour away from Chatsworth and Haddon Hall.  The Manifold track, for walkers and cyclists, is just a short walk from The Bothy.
