History Brough has strong links to Roman times, the Roman military camp ANAVIO was situated only a few hundred metres south of The Travellers Rest. Probably built around AD155-158 by a Roman cohort sent to police the local lead mines which were important, and a source of wealth for the Romans. A Roman alter stone, which had been set up by Proculus the commander of Anavio, was unearthed in 1980 and is now exhibited in Sheffield's Western Park Museum.
Situation The Travellers is situated 1 mile from the villages of Hope and Bradwell at the junction of the A6187 and B6049. Hope railway station is a ten minute walk away and there is a bus stop outside the pub which has the main Castleton to Sheffield bus service.
