Description:

This could just be pub heaven – a 17th century, family run, coaching inn with oak beams, carved settles, open fires, newspapers to read and jazz in the background. This busy country pub has been in Debbie Shaw’s family for over 50yrs. Carl & Debbie have been at the helm for the past 12yrs and have received several well deserved accolades for their congenial welcome, fine ales and excellent menu.

FANTASTIC FOOD.....
Carl chefs and produces everything himself (including the bread, chutneys and cheese biscuits accompanying your meal). Preferring to use local and seasonal produce the menu could include steak & Old Stockport pie with braised red cabbage, calves’ liver on bubble and squeak, home-grown rhubarb & ginger mousse with gingerbread or the renowned sticky toffee pudding with black treacle sauce.

Service is swift and friendly and, this being a Robinson’s house; Unicorn Best Bitter, Old Stockport and Double Hop are on hand pump.
In fine weather you can enjoy a drink in the beautiful beer garden, enjoy a game of boules or challenge your companions to a game of garden jenga!

Local Attractions

Ashford itself has a number of points of interest for the visitor.

The Church of Holy Trinity has features which date back to its Norman origins.

The villagers of Ashford maintain the centuries old tradition of Well Dressing. Every year for Trinity Sunday, six wells are dressed providing a colourful spectacle.

The Sheepwash Bridge in the centre of the village is a medieval packhorse bridge close to the site of the original ford. The practice of bringing sheep to wash them before shearing persisted until a very few years ago and is demonstrated annually during Well Dressing Week.

Ashford is the ideal centre for a walking holiday in the Peak District. Many beautiful routes lead from the village in all directions. Within easy reach are excellent private fishing gounds, golf courses, riding stables and the Tissington Trail, a route very popular with walkers.

Monsal Head is nearby, as are many delightful towns and villages such as Buxton, Matlock, Ashbourne and Castleton famous for its Blue John Caverns. The area also contains some of the country's finest historic houses - Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall amongst them.
