Description:

Camping Holidays in Derbyshire.

Add some adventure to your camping holiday in the snug simplicity of a Camping Pod surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Peak District National Park.

What, you may ask, is a Camping Pod? Essentially, it's England's answer to a small Norwegian mountain cabin or Scottish bothy. Roughly the shape of an inverted boat hull, constructed largely from timber, using sheep's wool for insulation and offering standing headroom throughout much of the interior, Camping Pods are currently available in two sizes at Peak District Pods.

The original Camping Pod is suitable for 2 adults and 2 young children, the larger Family Camping Pod being capable of accommodating up to 5 adults (but see the dimensions on the Details page). In view of our spectacular, elevated position in the Peak District, all our Camping Pods are fitted with additional insulation and heating, so our guests remain snug even in the coldest winters.

All of our Camping Pods also come with a conventional 13 amp power outlet and electric light and are fitted with a small deck area part sheltered by the roof overhang – ideal as a cooking area or as a sitting out area in which to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.

Benefits:-

    * No struggling to erect your accommodation in wind or rain – arrive, move in to your Camping Pod!
    * Save the family car from a wet, muddy tent and the hassle of trying to dry it before storage.
    * No more leaking or flapping fabric, muddy groundsheets or bent tent poles.
    * Arrive by cycle down the Tissington or High Peak Trail from the local rail stations at Buxton or Cromford or by bus using the stop at the bottom of our field – no need to lug a heavy tent.
    * Environmentally friendly construction.
    * More privacy and security.
    * All the benefits of an insulated structure in winter and summer.
    * Option of having heat, light and other electrical devices.
    * Affordable accommodation in a stunning location.

Canvas and Timber Yurts

Yurts were used as mobile homes by nomadic tribesmen in Asia. They comprise a light timber frame covered by canvas providing a large, circular living space with full headroom throughout most of it.

We offer various different sizes of canvas Yurts from 16' in diameter which are provided with a circular timber deck or ground sheet with a base nylon carpet on top. Most have a wood-fired stove, power and light. Some may have additional rugs and linings and may be provided with a double bed at additional cost.

The apex of the Yurt is usually transparent so you can see the stars. The Yurt apex can usually be folded back like a sun-roof for better ventilation on hot days. Most Yurts are provided with a traditional fire pit for use outside and an initial supply of seasoned timber as well as a 13 amp socket outlet and lighting.

Practicalities

The 16' Canvas Yurt accommodates up to 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 children, depending upon the use of beds, camp/air beds or mats, dogs are also permitted. It is provided with an initial supply of seasoned firewood, thereafter, additional wood can be purchased from our shop. A kettle, frying pan and saucepan are also provided and may be used on the top of the stove for cooking and making tea. Alternatively, in fine weather a fire pit with grill and seasoned timber may be used outside the Yurt for cooking or barbeques.

We recommend clients bring their own camping stoves to as well as sleeping bags, plates and cutlery etc. We also recommend bringing your own camping or air bed or we can supply a double bed at additional cost.? Canvas Yurts are only available between Easter and the middle of November because the Camping Pods or Timber Yurts are far more comfortable in cold or wet weather.

Timber Yurts

Our timber yurts at Rivendale are wooden hexagonal cabins and, like the Camping Pods, are ideal in cold and wet weather as the timber provides effective insulation. We have two timber yurts, one of which contains a wood- burning stove, so don't forget to bring some wood and firelighters along or alternatively you can buy a bag of seasoned fire wood and firelighters from our shop. The second timber yurt contains an electric heater and both have a 13 amp power outlet and lighting.

Each timber yurt can sleep up to 2 adults and 1 small child
