Welcome to our award winning farm and the peace and delight of the Upper Dove Valley in the Peak District. If you enjoy spectacular scenery and care about the environment you will love staying here. The tranquility belies the fact that we are only 7 miles south of Buxton and a short distance from the villages of  Longnor and Hartington with great places to eat and drink
 
Our eco friendly converted 18th century barns provide comfortable and stylish:
 
• Self catering holiday accommodation:
            - The Shippon sleeps 5 in 2 bedrooms & is disabled friendly and pet friendly.
            - The Hayloft sleeps up to 7 in 3 bedrooms
            - Together they're a great venue for groups of up to 12 people
 
• Additional camping is available for larger groups.          
 
• New eco Haybarn Studio to use for your own events in conjunction with the accommodation or separately.

The Hayloft - Sleeps 5-7 in 3 bedrooms

The Hayloft is approached by an external stone staircase which leads into a large open plan room with exposed roof truss and carpeted floor.  There is a handmade oak kitchen /dining area / sitting area with comfortable leather sofas and stunning views through the glazed door up the Dove valley. Opening off this space is a family bedroom with a natural stone wall and oak beams with a double and a single bed. On the other side of the central area is a double/twin bedded room with en suite shower room and a glazed door onto the upper grassed area. A smaller bedroom with twin beds (full length/2'6"wide) leads off the corridor, as does the second shower room.

The Shippon - Sleeps 2-5 in 2 bedrooms

The Shippon has a large living room with wood burning stove, natural stone wall and oak beamed ceiling with a fitted oak kitchen and dining/sitting area. The glazed doors face south with views down the Dove valley. Off this is a lobby with space for coats and boots and a shower room. A door leads into a family room with a king size and single bed, again with a south facing glazed door. At the opposite end is a large bedroom with a twin/king size bed. It has oak beams, a natural stone wall with the door leading onto a herb garden. There is wheelchair access to the main ground floor areas, including a bedroom and shower room.

TV/DVD/CDplayer, microwave.  washing-machine, dishwasher. Cot and High chair available.

There is also a barn with a table-tennis table which is open for both the Hayloft and Shippon to use.  Please ask if you would like to use the barbecue.

We have for sale our own garden produce in season and eggs from our free-range maran hens.

The Haybarn Studio
The Haybarn Studio is able to host a range of activities including art courses and environmental workshops, social, education and training events with access to the 50 acre upland farm set in the upper Dove Valley in the Peak District with richly varied habitats including ponds, woodland, meadows and wetland as well as the upper reaches of the river Dove.

Whether for fun, invigoration, creativity, education or leisure in a setting dedicated to low impact living and biodiversity, you should find this a very adaptable space for your event: something out-of-the-way and out of-the-ordinary.

The upper meeting room (4m x 7.5m) seats up to 16 board room style, or can be arranged for arts activities etc.

The ground floor offers a fully equipped kitchen for those who want to cater for themselves.

The adjacent area (4m x 5m) can be set out for buffet lunches for up to 16 people or board room style meetings for up to 10 people.  This room can also be set out for arts activities etc.

You can also hire the adjacent Dove Valley Centre if you wish to organise a residential course (sleeps up to 12).

Hire Rates for 2010 (rates for charities and voluntary groups shown in brackets).  If you hire the adjacent accommodation then we offer the Studio at the discounted charity rate.

The use of the kitchen and crockery/cutlery is included in the price.

Refreshments
We can offer home made refreshments using food that is local/ organic/ Fair-trade where possible.

Art Courses, Craft and Environmental Workshops & Events in the Peak District.
 
Would you like a break in the superb landscape of the Upper Dove Valley and learn new skills or develop existing ones? If this appeals to you, come on one of our Art Courses and enjoy the company of like-minded people learning from enthusiastic and professional tutors. The tuition is based in our new eco-converted Haybarn Studio which has excellent facilities plus the added benefit of a stunning setting on our farm fronting onto the river Dove.
 
We host a whole range of arts and crafts courses for children and adults which include:
 
Arts workshops including watercolour painting & pen, ink & wash.
Willow crafts including basket making & garden structures.
Workshops can be arranged to suit group needs.
 
Some of our art courses and events are held in partnership with Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and the Peak District National Park.
 
You can also hire The Dove Valley Centre for self-catering Holiday Accommodation or the new eco Haybarn Studio for your own activities and events.
 
We have become known for our warm welcome and can provide you with refreshments and meals that are organic/Fair-trade and are sourced locally where possible.

Sunday 10th June
Biodiversity Day-Free & open to all (The Big Bird, Bug, Beast & Botany Hunt). 11-4
Bring the family & discover the wild plants & creatures on the farm : in the hay meadows, pastures, woodland, pond & river with the help from enthusiasts & naturalists from Staffs Wildlife Trust. Lots of fun activities throughout the day. Stay for the day & bring a picnic.
 
Tuesday 12th June
From Sketching to Painting with Tony Beresford. 10:00-4:00
Learn how to look at the landscape of the Upper Dove Valley through sketching outside & develop this into your own watercolour painting.
Cost: £55 includes tuition, lunch & refreshments.
 
Sunday 24th June     
Interpreting the landscape in pastels with Sandra Orme. 10:00-4:00
Sandra is an award winning artist & works mainly in Pastels. She will inspire you to create a Pastel landscape using a range of techniques. 
Cost: £55 includes tuition, lunch & refreshments. 
 
Wednesday 27th June
Willow Baskets with Rachel Evans. 10:00-4:00
Make a stunning basket with willow decorated with materials gathered from the hedgerows such as honeysuckle and ivy. 
Cost: £55 includes tuition, materials, lunch & refreshments.
 
Sunday 16th September 
Mixed Media with Tony Beresford. 10:00-4:00
Catch the colours of the valley in Autumn using a range of water based media. You'll have the chance to work both outside & in the studio.

Apple Day - Free and open to all. 11am-3.30pm
Come with the family for a day of apple-related fun. Bring your apple recipes to share and taste and try all things appley as well as your surplus apples for juicing. Paul Hand, our expert will help identify your unknown varieties and tell you more about growing local varieties.
 
Sunday 14th October
'Toastie Toes' Felt slippers with Claire de Ruiter. 10:00-4:00
Come & spend the day using beautifully coloured merino wool to design & make your own pair of stylish felt slippers. Perfect to keep yor toes warm all winter!

Thursday 18th October
Willow Apple Baskets /Apple Catchers with Rachel Evans. 10:00-4:00
Learn/develop your skills in weaving to make either a basket for apples or make an apple catcher to gather those out of reach apples!
