To celebrate the summer solstice longest day shortest night a group of intrepid soul up for something different opted to spend the night under the stars somewhere on Mount Snowdon.
Setting of at around 5pm from the meeting point in Betws-Y-Coed for the drive to Pen-y-Pass, the evening looked like being a good one although the top of Snowdon was under cloud, just.
The walk up the miners track passing Llyn Llydaw to rise to the shore of Glaslyn was fairly easy once the group were used to their packs, Here is where we were to spend the night in the shelter of the high ground, the rippling waters of the lake and the waterfall for company, and the many 3 peak challengers that pass by.
We left our heavy packs here for the climb to the summit, entering the cloud base and the wind that greets you at the railway line, the summit was cold, windy and in poor visibility so we didn’t stay long. The descent in the cloud then the dark was slow and exciting, all had good torches so it was a fun trip.
Back at the lake to settle in for the night, the many survival bags made us look like a easy jet outing, the night stayed mostly dry and a comfortable temperature. The morning arrived with a warming cuppa in bed before breaking camp and heading off to Capel Curig for a well deserved breakfast.
