The Whitworth Centre & Park, Darley Dale.
The Whitworth Centre and Park, originally opened in 1890 is the lasting legacy left by wealthy Victorian industrial magnate, Sir Joseph Whitworth of Stancliffe Hall, Darley Dale. In 2003 the10 acre Park was the subject of a £750,000 refurbishment, and this was followed in 2009/10 with a £1.7 million refurbishment of the building itself.
The Whitworth - Centre of Excellence
The Whitworth Centre is a magnificent grade two listed Victorian-gothic architectural gem situated alongside the A6 halfway between Matlock and Bakewell. It provides high quality conferencing facilities, with Wi Fi in every room, conference call facilities and all facilities necessary for modern conferences and presentations.
The Park provides a tranquil relaxing area for lunch break contemplation by conference delegates. It comprises over ten acres of superbly landscaped grounds with pleasant walks along tranquil tree-lined avenues and a picturesque lake, water features with an ornamental rustic wooden bridge, and an abundance of rare and mature trees which stand stately and proud beside the pathways throughout the Park.
The building and grounds are normally open from 8.30am to 10pm throughout the year - although it is possible to hire rooms and/or the grounds beyond normal opening hours.
Catering can be arranged by the Whitworth Centre, ranging from a simple cold buffet to full three course (and more) meals. There is ample car parking space at the Centre, which benefitted from a large new car park as part of the recent refurbishment.
The Whitworth Centre Facilities
The Centre has meeting rooms of a variety of sizes, capable of accommodating groups from 6 to 200, and a `loop' assisted hearing system is available on request for all rooms.
The Terrace Room which overlooks the tree-lined avenues of the park can seat one hundred guests and can be hired for meetings, conferences or presentations.
The Banqueting Hall seats 220 people and is ideal for larger conferences, lectures and presentations.
Other letting rooms (Lady Whitworth Room, Sir Joseph Room, the Old Library, the Brunel Room) can be laid out in lecture theatre format, boardroom format or seminar format.
The Snooker/Billiards Room has two full size excellent tables, reputedly two of the best in the country and the Whitworth Centre has established itself as a leading venue for the sport of billiards in Britain, and each year during March the National Finals take place here. This facility is available to conference guests during relaxation periods at conferences.
There is also a fully equipped Sports Hall catering for a variety of sports. All rooms have easy access throughout to kitchen facilities.
The Park provides for a wealth of sporting activities with soccer and cricket pitches, a Bowling Green for Crown Green Bowls and a croquet pitch.
The Whitworth Lodge
Originally the Park Keeper’s house, this detached three double bedroomed Whitworth Lodge underwent a full refurbishment in 2009. It is proving popular with Senior Executives who need to get away from day-to-day issues and undertake in-depth analyses of business matters, with ready access to meeting facilities and conference call facilities.
