The Old Nags Head is in Edale is renowned as one of the 100 greatest pubs of England and is situated at the top of Edale village in Grindsbrook at the official started of the southern end of the Pennine Way.
On arrival to the Old Nags Head, you will find a warm, cozy and friendly atmosphere. In the winter and on rainy days the open log fires are lit adding to the welcoming atmosphere and so the combination of beer, fresh air and open fires has had many hiker gently relaxed and dozing around dusk. For those rare sunny days they have an outside seating area that looks onto the beautiful Kinder Scout hill and valleys with the river Noe running adjacent to the pub.
There are two camp sites nearby which makes the Old Nags Head the perfect meeting place, either before or after one of the many walks available from the pub, and whether you’re by yourself or in a big party you will be welcome at the Nags.
The bar has a wide range of lagers and ciders, both in bottle and on draught, and also four hand pulled ales, which includes they very own ale name “the Nags1577” which is brewed to celebrate when the pub was built.
There is also an excellent range of spirits and wine and a large selection of whiskey and malt whiskeys. There is also a wide range of soft drinks and coffee’s.
What’s on the menu?
The new menu, which is served Monday – Saturday from 12pm until 9.30pm and on Sunday from 12pm until 8pm, offers a delicious range of traditional pub favourites and bar snacks, plus some more special dishes to accommodate the local culture as well as weekly specials board. We now have a carvery offering Derbyshires finest meats, vegetarian options also available. Please look on our website for days and times. With five rooms of seating all you have to do is find a table that suits you and enjoy what the Old Nags Head has to offer.Full Carvery on Saturdays and Sundays .
The new management and their team offer a warm welcome to all (with or without muddy boots) and you can also bring your four legged friend in too.
Families are welcome and we have board games to keep all ages entertained.
Please note that between November – March we are closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
We would also like to let you know that we can offer 2 x compact delightful self catering cottages. 1 sleeps 6 people. 1 sleeps 5 people. Minimum 2 night stay.
