For a truly memorable experience which is creative and fun, why not treat yourself to a course or workshop at the Derbyshire Eco Centre. Discover the joy of learning at our flagship eco building in its relaxing setting. From woodland management, dry stone walling or rustic furniture making to stained glass, yoga or map reading and navigation skills, we have something for everyone.
Come and share your time with like-minded people and make new friends. If you have children aged between 4 and 14, we also offer workshops during the school holidays for parents and children to learn together skills such as mosaic making, lantern making or making bird feeders and bug homes. For visitors to our beautiful area, you can learn skills that will be lasting souvenir of a truly memorable holiday.
Derbyshire County Council’s Eco Centre is the county’s hub for sustainability learning. It is the first of its kind – the only centre built by an adult community education service to promote sustainability skills anywhere in the country. The brand new, purpose built building demonstrates sustainable building ideas and techniques. Find out more about the design, materials and technologies on our website.
The Eco Centre is in a lovely location on the door step of both the Peak District National Park and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site. It is a short walk from the historic market town of Wirksworth and it shares a site with the National Stone Centre. We offer a wide variety of day and weekend workshops and 5 and 10 week courses (during the day or in the evening).
We also run a few longer courses where you can get a qualification in horticulture, dry stone walling or land based activities. Look on our website for our current brochure or contact us for more details. You can also hire space at the centre for your own course, meeting or exhibition, or we can design learning opportunities for groups. Contact us informally to discuss your ideas and the particular needs of your group or organisation.
If you are interested in crafts, conservation or climate change, or a course to help develop confidence and personal skills we can help. We have well equipped meeting and work spaces, and can offer learning in the outdoors, including a Forest Schools area.’
