Car parking in Ashbourne : there are lots of opportunities to take advantage of some on street parking throughout the entire streets of Ashbourne.
The main car parks are Shawcroft in the town centre , which has 198 spaces, at the leisure centre where there are 95 spaces and at Sainsbury’s, off Compton (although there is a two hour limit and the charge is refunded for shoppers.) There are 198 spaces potentially here.
When there isn’t a market, the Market Place is a car park also, with space for 47 spaces.
There are 44 spaces at the bus station, or hundred and 19 spaces on Cockayne Avenue, and 47 spaces in cattle market.
Public Toilets: There are toilets in Sainsbury’s, which are very clean and recommended by the locals, and there are some in Shaw croft car park and the Market Place.
Shopping: There are several supermarkets in Ashbourne, including a big Sainsbury’s and Waitrose but it is more well known for the high quality of independent shops, speciality food shops and wonderful antique shops which bring visitors in from miles around. The historic marketplace offers a great atmospheric shopping experience, and there are many shops clustered around the market and along the main street of the town.
Sports: Ashbourne Leisure Centre is on Station Road and it has a wonderful swimming pool, a sports hall, squash courts, skate park and gym and offers a range of recreational activities.
The nearest riding centre for equestrian lovers is at Tissington trekking centre, at Wood farm, where you can have a two hour ride around Thorpe Pastures where a lot of the scenes for the recent Robin Hood movie was filmed.
Ashbourne golf club is based at the hundred and 58 acre former hunting lodge of Whaston Road. It has a design and build 18 hole course and practice ground with very modern clubhouse facilities and shop for the professionals.
Ashbourne is a great place if you like outdoor activities including abseiling, climbing, potholing and canoeing which is also available.
At Wild Park leisure in the nearby village of Brailsford, there are go-karting, quad biking and paintball in opportunities.
For fishermen and women, there is Ashbourne fishpond for course fishing and there is plenty of choice on offer with specially stocked lakes at Yeaveley Estate.
Walking in Ashbourne is wonderful because there are dozens of walks to enjoy either around the town, ranging from flat path to traversing the cobbled streets, or there are the easy strolls through Tissington Trail and parts of the High Peak and for more adventurous routes through Dove Dale, the Manifold Valley and others surrounding areas.
For cyclists, the Tissington, and High Peak Trails after a fantastic routes for cyclists of any ability and it’s possible to go off the beaten track to find much more challenging trails. There is a local bike hire centre at Tissington Cycle Hire, and Peak Cycle Hire.
Climbing in Ashbourne is really better to find the nearby gritstone edges such as Froggatt Edge, Stanage and Curbar, although most of the White Peak is known for its steep rock faces, but with fewer cracks. The best places are Matlock Bath and black rocks near Cromford, which are popular local challenges.
Churches: There are several churches in Ashbourne, the most prominent is St Oswald’s Parish Church at Church Street but there is also a Methodist church here as well on the same street. United Reformed Church is on Buxton Road, and so is sent John’s Church of England. The Church In The Peak is a community-based church, which meets on Thursday evenings. All Sts Roman Catholic is on Belle Vue Road and Elim Pentecostal church is on South Street.
