Once the most important lead mining town in the country, Wirksworth has an incredibly rich industrial heritage of which it is justly proud. Lead mining gave way to quarrying in the 19^th century, which is still carried on to this day. As well as its historic links to the past, Wirksworth is set in some stunning countryside on the edge of the Peak District and within striking distance of some wonderful sightseeing, walking and climbing.
