The Peak District, Britain’s first National Park has a special place in the hearts of millions of visitors – local, national and international. A special protected landscape of 555 square miles about the size of Greater London at the heart of the UK, this was the first of the National Parks in the UK.

Distinctive Landscapes

The Peak District National Park includes the distinctive and varied landscapes of the Dark Peak and White Peak. The Peak District & Derbyshire straddles the border between the northern highland parts of Britain and the southern lowland counties. This is marked in a variety of ways, and is chiefly seen in the landscape features.
