Rubicon Watches first started out as Direct Watch Company in 1981. The business was established by Leon Woodward with the assistance of his two young sons, Craig and Gareth. They started selling on markets and events across the country including air shows, festivals and car shows. Weekly markets were the backbone of the business where they traded at Stockport, Leek, Buxton, Skipton and the famous cattle market of Bakewell. Watches and clocks could be found at discounted prices and Leon would always be happy to offer a bargain.

They opened a small shop in the Peak District town of Chapel-en-le-Frith which closed in 1993. During the late 90s’, with the advent of the worldwide web, markets were becoming less popular so the family decided it was time to adapt. They moved the business on-line and started selling on eBay. This was a big change for them as they had been so used to dealing face to face and offering a personal service.

In 2016 they bought an old bank in the historic town square of Chapel-en-le-Frith and adapted it to a warehouse, offices and new shop. This time the shop flourished, offering the same personal service as they did on the markets. The shop will fit batteries, glass and straps while you wait at competitive prices.

The online business has grown and customers can enjoy the same great service but from the comfort of their own homes, whether that’s in the UK or across the globe. Rubicon offer a bracelet sizing service so when you new timepiece arrives it can be enjoyed immediately.

Rubicon is authorised to sell over 30 different brands ranging from children’s watches, clocks, jewellery and exclusive models that have been designed in-house.

Leon retired from the business in 2019 and it continues to expand under the guidance of Craig and Gareth and the excellent team they have.

The company’s roots remain in Chapel-en-le-Frith where it began over forty years ago. They still believe in good old-fashioned values; customer service and satisfaction is number one.
