Caverns in Buxton are a thrilling sight to see – deep underground and great to explore in inclement Peak District weather. With one in particular, Poole’s Cavern being its name, it is a fixture and famous within the Derbyshire spa town of Buxton. Dating back over 3000 years it’s easy to imagine prehistoric man living here still today. As an attraction since bygone days, it’s described as one of the seven wonders of the Peak and it rightly deserves its name. With a brand-new visitor centre and cavern cafe offering tasty meals and snacks, there is also a new children’s play area and an outdoor seating area, providing a treat for a day out in the school holidays.
Caverns in Buxton are next to the delightful Buxton country park with 100 acres of beautiful sheltered woodland. It really is a day to be remembered and a very memorable one for sure. Open March to October, every day from 9.30 till 5, Buxton caverns have tours, which begin every 20 minutes or so. Come along and see exhibitions and visit the stalactite rock shop, famous for its collection of rocks, minerals, gemstones, fossils and jewellery from around the world.
