TROUT ANGLING
The four trout lakes are well stocked with brown and rainbow trout and no fish are put in at less than takeable size. Most are introduced to the lakes at about 1lb. to 1.5lb but there are much larger specimens to be caught with weights well into double figures. The wild brown trout in the fresh water brook will prove a match for even the most skilful angler. The lakes are open to trout anglers all the year round but fishing in the brook is only permitted between September 30th and April 1st.
COARSE FISHING
Barlow fishery possesses four lakes devoted entirely to coarse angling. The lakes, situated at the far end of the fishery contain all the variety of fish that you would expect to find in a high quality water. In particular, there are some fine specimens of large carp.
Because of the close proximity of the Keepers’ Lane car park, the coarse lakes are particularly well suited to disabled anglers.
Recommended baits include:- Maggots (whites and pinkies), sweetcorn, luncheon meat and, in summer, floating bread crust.
REFRESHMENTS
Sizzling English breakfasts are served at peak times at the log cabin snack bar, pictured above, which can be found close to the coarse lakes’ car park.
Most of our food is home cooked and contains mainly local produce. The snack bar has recently been enlarged and can now accommodate more than twice as many anglers under cover.
