Well known for the quality of food it serves, the White Lion is a popular place to eat out and has an ever growing reputation.
Tenants, Greg and Libby Robinson took over the running of The White Lion in August 2009 and although fairly young have brought a wealth of experience with them.
Downstairs, the establishment has been totally refurbished to a high standard, bringing decor and furnishings into the 21st century, but without losing the old charm and character. Chef, Greg, has ten years experience and his dishes are extremely popular with locals and visitors, the frequently changing menu has a strong focus on local produce and the dishes served are of a high quality.
Pub classics such as Beer Battered Haddock, Hand Cut Chips and Mushy Peas appear alongside dishes such as Oven Baked Salmon, Herb and Nut Crust, Basil and Coriander Linguine, Red Onion and Chilli Salsa and Critchlows Pork Cutlet, Savoury Bread and Butter pudding, Courgette Fritter, Mini Roast Potatoes and Forestiere Sauce.
For a lighter bite at lunchtime this menu is run alongside a sandwich menu including Crispy Shredded Port Ciabatta, Apple and Sage Compote and a White Lion ploughmans.
The dining area seats 60 people and it is advisable for diners to book at weekends because of the popularity of the place.
Food is available Monday – Friday between 12pm – 3pm and 6pm – 9pm and on Saturdays 12pm – 9pm and Sundays 12pm – 8pm.
The hospitality is of an extremely high standard and many customers return time and time again to soak up everything the place has to offer.
Situated in the village of Great Longstone, it is not far from the historic Chatsworth house and Estate, which many visitors to the area like to have a look at. The White Lion is open every session and all day on Saturday and Sunday and can be found via the A6, A6020 or A619.
Two rotating real ales are served from the Robinsons Brewery Range and the bar is well stocked with plenty of other alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages.
Greg and Libby welcome children to the White Lion and disabled access is not a problem.
There is a large rear car park for those visiting the establishment, the couple have aspirations to develop letting rooms in the not too distant future.
