Gratton

Gratton is a tiny remote village in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales.  A group of scattered houses and farms it has some idyllic isolated cottages set in narrow lanes between Elton and Youlgreave. Some of the old building are surprisingly grand for such a small village such as the Old Cheese factory and the Square House built from the old quarries nearby. Gratton Grange has a beautiful old cart shed with carved stone pullars visible form the lane which is nearby.

The area is very scenic and boulders and shryubby vegetation of Gratton Dale which provides a shelter of a rich variety of wildlife. Nearby at Merril, the Grange is all the remains of the mediaeval village. Unfortunately there are no visitor the facilities here. It is really a village for admiring the beauty of the place. The nearest facilities are in the neighbouring villages of Elton and Youlgreave.
