Hilltop Toffee
375g (3/4lb) mixed brown and white sugar
2 tablespoons black treacle
50g (2oz) butter
½ cup milk
a little vinegar
Boil the sugar with the treacle, butter and milk. When hot add a little vinegar. Keep boiling until the toffee sets when half a teaspoon of the mixture is dropped into a cup of cold water. At this point pour the toffee out onto a tray, then cut it when still warm and wrap it.
