Bakewell is the ‘Capital of the Peak’, and home to the Peak District National Park Authority. With easy access to all parts of Derbyshire, it has been a popular market town for centuries, drawing in travellers, tradesmen and visitors. Little wonder then that there are several cottages in Bakewell from which to choose. Within the town you will find a diverse and comprehensive range of amenities, activities, shops, businesses, restaurants and leisure facilities. If you would like to be within walking distance then the holiday cottages in Bakewell such as Anne Cottage and Butts Cottage would be ideal. However, if you prefer to be a short drive away from the hubbub of Bakewell life, Jubilee Cottage at Hassop may well appeal.
Bakewell was granted a market charter in 1330. For nearly 700 years visitors have flooded into the town to walk around the colourful array of stalls which suddenly appear early in the morning. There is also a cattle market where local farmers continue to buy and sell their animals. However, many farms have diversified their business, so that some holiday cottages in Bakewell can be found ‘down on the farm’. There are also farm cottage complexes offering a number of cottages and leisure facilities such as Bolehill Farm Cottages, Haddon Grove Farm Cottages, Burton Manor Farm Cottages and Ball Cross Farm Cottages. Bakewell has several crossing places over the River Wye which meanders through the valley en route to romantic Haddon Hall.
