How to get to Castleton

Castleton lies in the Hope Valley between the Dark and the White Peak areas of the Peak District.

By Car:

Entering Castleton from the East (M1, Sheffield/Chesterfield) take the A6187 into Castleton. From the West (M6/Chapel en le Frith/Buxton) take the unclassified road Chapel en le Frith towards Castleton.

The best exit points from the motorways are:

Northbound on M6 – exit junction 14 to the A34 and then onto the A520

Southbound on the M6/M56/M60 – exit junction 27 onto the M60 and then onto the A6

Northbound on M1 – exit at junction 29 onto the A671

Southbound on M1 – exit at junction 36 onto the A61 and then onto the A57

From Manchester:

A shuttle bus from Edale and Hope railway stations, linking the stations to the caverns and Castleton, operates at weekends and on bank holidays throughout the year. Edale and Hope stations are approximately 50 minutes journey time from Manchester.

From Sheffield:

A bus service connects Sheffield, 16 miles away, and Castleton. The Sheffield -Ecclesall-Fox House-Hathersage-Bradwell-Hope-Castleton runs, and most of the time and the journey time varies between 58 min and one hour 11 min.

By railway:

The nearest station to Castleton is Hope station, which is 2 and a half miles to the east of Castleton
