To be able to eat locally sourced food is always the healthier option and great for helping out local businesses too. Due to its tiny size, there are no huge supermarkets in the village which is a bonus we feel as do the residents and locals! The very picturesque village of Ashford in the Water is a tiny village very close to the beautiful market town of Bakewell less than 2 miles away where there are lots more grocery shops, butchers and bakers.
Local produce in Ashford means visiting the delicatessen Roberts of Ashford, the old grey stone building on the corner of the pretty village on the River Wye. Building up a loyal clientele since opening in the year 2000, the pickled onions have become a business in themselves selling to meat outlets and to the trade, but the shop sells ready-made sandwiches, cooked meats, dairy products, preserves, cottages, fresh fruit and vegetables. There is also a great selection of ice creams during the summer months and is one of the most delightful food shops in the whole region.
