Melbourne Hall, situated in Melbourne village, Derbyshire, was formerly occupied by the Bishops of Carlisle until taken over by Sir John Coke in the early part of the 17th century, who had the place extensively rebuilt. It is now the family home of Lord Ralph Kerr, though it has many historical connections, belonging once to Lord Melbourne, Queen Victoria`s first Prime Minister.

It has interesting and extensive gardens which contain a wrought iron arbour made around 1710 by Robert Bakewell of Derby. It is known locally as the birdcage and is a unique example of the blacksmiths craft.
