Nine Ladies on Stanton Moor

There are many prehistoric remains on Stanton Moor but the Nine Ladies stone circle is probably the best known. The circle was probably a sacred site where religious ceremonies took place, not just for Bronze Age burial purposes but for celebrations as well. The circle is 33 feet in diameter and about 130ft away is a King Stone. It’s name is based on a legend that nine ladies and a fiddler, the kings stone, were turned to stone for making music and dancing on the Sabbath.

Robin Hood’s Stride

Also known as Mock Beggars Hall because of the realistic look of the towers when seen at dusk, this rocky outcrop can be found near Harthill Moor and is a real Peak District wonder.
