Shillito Cross On Ramsley Moor

Shillito Cross lies hidden in Shillito Wood on the top of Ramsley Moor. This ancient stone cross would have guided very early travellers across the moors.

Nearby is the junction of Fox Lane and Rumbling Street where there is a gate providing access to Ramsley Moor, being part of the Eastern Moors Estate which covers an area of some 6,400 acres and is owned by the Peak Park National Authority

By the side of the gate, sitting in a little hollow is another old stone which is a guide stoop dating from 1710. Now chipped and weathered, it showed the way west to Bakewell via Barbrook and Baslow Bar, south-east to Chesterfield via Cuttorpe or north-east to Dronfield
