The George Hotel, Hathersage

The George Hotel at Hathersage, A Derbyshire Hotel ideally located for walking, bird watching and cycling in the heart of the Peak District, Derbyshire.

Formerly a 500 year old inn, this highly rated Derbyshire hotel in the heart of the Peak District has been transformed into a relaxing haven in which to unwind. Featuring contemporary décor, award winning cuisine by Chef Helen Heywood, with friendly and unobtrusive service, the George retains its charm and character whilst offering every modern amenity.

Sister hotel to the Cavendish at Baslow, the George is located close to Chatsworth House (7 miles) in the centre of Hathersage village, surrounded by the spectacular Peak District National Park. Weddings are our speciality – intimate setting, great food and a dedicated organiser; the whole hotel is available for your private House Party.

Business traveller? – This ‘oasis’ is only 20 minutes from the centre of Sheffield – a true home from home.

The George is a non-smoking hotel throughout, including all our bedrooms.

Available Room Types

We are able to offer the following types of room at the George:

Superior Rooms – refurbished in march 2009, sumptuous, warmly furnished and generally larger than our standard rooms, featuring DVD player, bathrobes and private mini bars.

Four Poster – Our 4-poster is the largest room we have, with feature ‘St George’ stain glass window, settee, mini bar and bathrobes and (of course) the bed.

Ground Floor Rooms – We have three double rooms of this type, located at street level, but access is still by stairs (the building is 500 years old in parts and the layout and structure reflects this). These rooms are a recent addition and feature large bathrooms (one of which, room 22, has a walk-in shower but no bath).

Standard Rooms – Recently refurbished, light and airy, using modern colours and fabrics.

All bedrooms feature private bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, reading books and sufficient space for work or study, wifi access which is free of charge, direct dial telephones and televisions with radio combined. Some are located overlooking the rear of the hotel (please request these on booking – subject to availability); those on the front of the hotel feature secondary double glazing which is remarkably effective.

The food at George´s is basically about simplicity combined with freshness. Helen Heywood’s (Chef at the George since 2006 and prior to that Jnr. Weddings

The Courtyard Suite comprises essentially a reception room (the Boardroom) and the Courtyard where the wedding breakfast (reception) will take place; both rooms are adjacent to an open, walled courtyard patio, ideal for champagne receptions (weather permitting!).

The Boardroom, together with the courtyard patio, is ideal for greeting your guests with pre-reception drinks, or can be used for Civil Wedding ceremonies or smaller, intimate Receptions for up to a maximum of 20 guests seated.

In the Courtyard we can cater for a maximum of 65 persons seated and up to 100 for an informal evening reception. Table layout can vary to suite your requirements, but should round tables be required (as opposed to rectangular ‘top table and sprigs’), the maximum capacity becomes reduced to 50.

The George is a non-smoking hotel throughout.

One advantage to choosing the George is that you have, in effect, your own personal wedding advisor. Our wedding advisor, Kathryn Joseph, has a great deal of experience at organising weddings. Kathryn will be able to advise you every step of the way to ensure you have a superb day.

You will have our undivided attention!

Conferences

Courtyard suite

The larger of two dedicated meeting rooms, overlooking the quiet Courtyard patio to the rear of the Hotel, ensuring undisturbed facilities. Located on the ground floor with easy access to the car park (50 spaces), the rooms offer both natural daylight and modern internal lighting. Wifi access is offered free of charge and there are telephone points and ample power sockets.

The Boardroom

The smaller of our meeting rooms, again overlooking the courtyard patio to the rear of the hotel, and enjoying a quiet location for undisturbed meetings. With both natural daylight and modern internal lighting, blackout and wifi access free of charge, the Boardroom is ideal for smaller meetings of up to 30 or as a breakout/training room in addition to the Courtyard Suite.

Personal conference advisor

At the George you will have one point of contact from initial enquiry, throughout the booking process to the point where you arrive at the hotel. You will then be ‘handed over’ to dedicated and professional personnel who will be fully briefed on your requirements for the day.

Call Kathryn Joseph, your personal conference advisor, on her direct line 01433 652261, who will be delighted to help.
